"A dragon-riders' academy where the trials are lethal, the secrets multiply, and the romance burns."
Violet Sorrengail has trained her whole life for the quiet scribe quadrant, but her mother — the general — forces her into the riders' quadrant of Basgiath War College, where bonding a dragon is the only alternative to dying in training. Outside the college walls, a war her side is quietly losing complicates everything.
The pacing is relentless, and the enemies-to-lovers thread with a dangerous fellow cadet explains much of the book's popularity. The worldbuilding leans on familiar romantasy furniture — war college, dragon bonds, hidden powers — and leans on it competently rather than freshly. Readers who need airtight magic systems or an ending without a cliffhanger will be frustrated.
Rebecca Soler and Teddy Hamilton narrate the English audiobook, which runs 22 hours 2 minutes. This is an editorial assessment of the novel, not a review of that performance. A strong choice for romantasy listeners who want plot momentum above all.
