Hodejegerne

by Jo Nesbø

Editorial book review — not a firsthand listening review. Audio performance is not scored; verify the selected edition at the retailer.

"A status-conscious thief discovers how quickly control can turn into a trap."

Roger Brown works as a headhunter while secretly stealing art to maintain an expensive life. A prospective recruit and a valuable painting draw him into a dangerous contest that strips away the confidence of his professional persona.

Nesbø uses vanity and insecurity as the engine of a tightly plotted thriller. The reversal from calculating hunter to vulnerable target gives the story momentum and a darkly comic edge. Its violence and increasingly elaborate turns can push plausibility, so it suits readers willing to accept heightened genre mechanics.

This standalone is an accessible entry for Norwegian readers who do not want to begin a long detective series. It is not a gentle crime story, and the protagonist is intentionally hard to admire. The editorial recommendation concerns the plot and character; a chosen audio edition should be sampled separately.
